Massive Brands Bring High Speed Gaming Laptops to Everybody

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

It wasn’t very long ago when only a few brands sold laptops for gaming. Despite the fact they were not amazing sellers they did have high mark ups. They were the laptop computers you dreamed of but were out of your reach. Had you been a power hungry user they were basically the best laptops you could obtain. They most likely were not massive sellers though because I think the majority of us buy laptops that we can effortlessly afford. As the international computer brands distinguish the potential profits in gaming laptops, the sector is evolving.

Gaming laptops are normally not affordable by most of us and tier 1 brands know they can take advantage of the high profit margins even further with their bulk manufacturing. Currently the profit margins on most laptop computers are so slender that this constitutes as an excellent opportunity to roll back the gross margins. This was really the only sector left where prospects would buy laptops from littler manufacturers. If I was a smaller reseller I would possibly be thinking of strategies to react to this kind of competition. I say this due to the fact that the technology which was once premium and overpriced is now mass market. Smaller system builders can’t really leverage a brand name as the larger competitors could.

To my amazement the brand name gaming laptops are as good or even better than the best laptops in the market. In my opinion though, this is actually a source of promise for the local guys in retail. People like to be able to customize as they can specify what is most important to them. Consumers of this type are generally extremely educated with regards to the technology involved, and hence are able to do spec for spec evaluations. Sometimes the components mean a lot a more when compared to the design for these types of people. Certainly from the buyers position, its a great trend. A plan that the littler companies might apply is to reduce markup in to sell more system. I say that rather hesitantly though because the notebook computer market is a really fast paced area. High prices will stay and be constant with the latest laptops is what I’m guessing. Strong Competition usually drives companies to do more and provide increased value so that looks good.

Deliver Your Web Site From Evil (Part 2)

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Here are some tips to protect your content from being ripped off. Other sites can easily outrank you in SERPs for your own content. This can happen if they have higher PageRank than you, or get spidered by Google first.

You should:

1. Set up a bad-bot-banning script on your site.

There’s one offered in this forum: http://www.w ebmasterworld.com/forum88/10425.htm

This is to bar leechers. You use ‘robots.txt’ to disallow a subdirectory. After two weeks, you set up the bad-bot script. The idea is that a bot that accesses a subdirectory, which you have disallowed, is a bad bot. It’s just hoovering up your data. It’s not from a legit search engine. So it’s probably a competitor, or a leech.

The script rewrites your .htaccess file to forbid the bot access to your site altogether. Webmasters are keen to ban some bots to save bandwidth also.

Furthermore, you can ban individual downloader softwares by their HTTP_USER_AGENT environmental variable:

http://www.ttfreeware.com/download/htaccess-forbid-bad-bo ts-etc.txt

2. Forbid visitors from Russia, China, Romania etc. using .htaccess.

This is to bar countries that are more likely to try leeching, or other jiggery-pokery:

http://www.ttfreeware.com/download/htaccess-denial-code.txt

Add or delete countries according to your needs by downloading this file:

http://www.location .com.my/Countries.zip

You can use the database within to sort countries by continent, and build up a list.

Some Third-World countries are noted for hacking and fraud. You may think you want the whole world to come to your site, but you don’t. Most of the world is poor, and $30.00 USD is a lot of money. It’s not that they wouldn’t _like_ to buy your goods; they just can’t afford to. They are more likely to be tyre-kickers than customers.

3. Use absolute URLs in your internal links.

This is to have lots of links to your main site in any HTML copied from you. Plaster your absolute URL, phone number, email address, AND absolute IMG urls all over your pages. Then bar offsite image hot-linking, using .htaccess. You can use .htaccess mod_rewrite to replace hot-linked images with an image of your choice.

This makes it less worthwhile to copy your content. They get a lot of broken images and big ads for your site in it.

4. Bar offsite image hotlinking by using .htaccess mod_rewrite:

http://www.ttfreeware.com/download/htaccess-image-prote ction-code.txt

5. Have a script generate a small amount of random content in the HTML of each page.

Find a random quote script at http://www.hotscripts.com. Get one that can be called using Server Side Includes (for static HTML pages), or a PHP one that you can insert in the footer file of your PHP site. Replace the included quotes with some original ones of your own.

This will make your page seem to be the latest, updated version of the content _if_ you have a higher Google PageRank than your plagiarist, _or_ Google indexes your content before theirs. Or both!

6. If copyists use Adsense, report them to Google via the Google adword link in each ad.

This is to rob them of the reason to rip-off your content. Google will (hopefully) terminate their account.

7. Insert a frame-breaking JavaScript in each page.

This is to break a stolen page out of any page framing it:

http://www.ttfreeware.com/download/break-frames-javascrip t-code.txt

8. Use Google Alerts to email you when your domain name turns up on a site they spider.

Google Alerts: http://www.google.com/alerts. Once I got an email about a site containing a URL of mine. Went to the site. Nothing but Google Adsense; no other text at all. The Google Alert email showed text I recognised as being mine. No sign of it in the HTML of the ‘linking’ site. Looked suspect. Ratted them out to Google Adsense.

9. Type this into the Google search box:

inurl:www.yoursite.com -site:www.yoursite.com

… to find possible plagiarists.

This command looks for sites with ‘www.yoursite.com‘ in the URL, excluding your own. It will show sites using redirect scripts. Many are harmless, some are not.

Some sites use an Apache web server 302 temporary redirect to usurp your search engine results ranking. Google sometimes sees their site as the originator. It helps the plagiarists if they have a higher PageRank than you. Because Google is searching through its own cache of the competitor site, you can’t block these redirects from your own site.

If the results from the query above contain URLs with script names like ‘nph-proxy.cgi’ in them, you may have a problem. However, Google seems to be getting better at pushing these sites into its supplemental listings.

The trick seems to be who gets spidered first, and who has higher PR. So get working on getting more links!

10. Put “noarchive” meta tags in all your pages:

http:// www.ttfreeware.com/download/meta-tag-code.txt

That won’t stop people grabbing your pages, but it’s one less resource for people who want to poke around your site.

11. Use a Redirect 301 in your .htaccess file to redirect from yourdomain.com to www.yourdomain.com, (or the reverse, whichever is the most common way you write your URLs):

http://www.ttfreeware.com/download/301-domain-redirect-code.t xt

This stops search engines finding ‘duplicate’ copies of your site, and hammering you with a duplicate content penalty.

12. http://www.CopyScape.com can help find content thieves.

I wouldn’t debate the matter with plagiarists. Give them 48 hours to remove your content, then inform their ISP. Accept no excuses, like “My web developer did it”. That’s the oldest get-out whine in the book: “Someone else did it, it wasn’t me!”.

Save your email correspondence as templates for future use.

13. You could also contact the plagiarists’ advertisers.

For example: “Your ad is displayed on this page here blahdeblah.com/copypage.htm, check out my page here mysite.com/original.htm.”

14. Slap them with a DMCA order.

A working example: http://www.google.com/dmca.h tml. DMCA means Digital Millenium Copyright Act. Relax, this is relatively easy. It’s a formal way of telling web sites and search engines who the real owner of the content is, and getting them to remove plagiarism.

Individually these tricks wouldn’t do much. Together, however, they will ‘harden’ your site.

Building a Wireless ISP Network….The Opportunity

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

In the US, most of the people have one or more broadband access services to choose from – variations of DSL from multiple vendors and cable. That is if you’re in a metropolitan area. For more rural locations your choices are limited….if you have any at all. Therein lies an opportunity for those willing to pursue it.

In the rural areas of the country, the selection is limited. Satellite is available to anyone (at high cost), but between dial up and T1 there are no options for many residents. Satellite suffers from latency, making it unsuitable for VoIP and some other real time Internet services. Some applications that should not be sensitive to latency (email, Web forms) will perform poorly or fail due to the increased packet time.

The traditional carriers (RBOC) and resellers face a cost issue in bringing broadband service to outlying areas. Without a concentration of users the per user cost at published rates causes either a poor or negative margin. The way cost accounting is done in larger corporations makes the business case worse for a large carrier. Cost allocations between departments for such things as floor space, personnel, and backend support end up as added costs rather than leverage opportunities. Traditional wired service will not reach outlying residents unless mandated by law, and the trend is against this happening in the near future.

So the opportunity is open for a business offering Internet broadband access service to outlying residents.

Therein lies a tremendous opportunity.

Now….just how do you go about taking advantage of this opportunity, filling a need, and building a wireless ISP network?

To assist you with working through the planning and execution of this effort here are some insights and resources you should consider:

* Business Continuity Planning – This isn’t the technical side of the business, the backup systems, redundant pathing, fail-over and restore, or alternate location stuff. Here you’re looking at subjects such as Legal Structure, Personnel Insurance, Asset Insurance, and Process and Procedure.

* Revenue and Profit – Covers where and how to create your income including installation, basic monthly service, custom access service, volume or corporate pricing, other services, business partnerships, usage based service, civic service, and tower leasing (or you could build and probvide your own).

* Security Issues – There’s much to consider in this arena. Don’t overlook it.

* Bandwidth issues – The access line to your tower(s) is likely the critical factor to success. Whether it’s a T1 or a DS3 line. First off, it probably represents your single largest operational cost. Next, it determines the maximum quality of service you can provide.

Quotes you receive for bandwidth will probably be very different in terms of cost and performance guarantees, and should cover Performance Standards, Service Availability, Mean Time to Respond, Mean Time to Repair, Latency, Packet Loss, and Jitter. To help you search for the best match provider for your bandwidth requirements….I recommend utilizing the services of an unbiased independent broker by submitting a RFQ request to DS3-Bandwidth.com.

Here are some additional resources that may be of benefit to those developing a WISP….or thinking of it.

StartAWisp.com

WISP Centric

There’s also an excellent forum for discussion of ideas and issues between WISP owners and potential developers at DSLReports.com.

Final advice….think strategically taking care to consider the business areas hilighted above. Do make use of an independent unbiased broker for the bandwidth decsion. Also, apply the resources shared here as well as any others discovered from your own research.

Mr. Shoaff’s Simple Strategies to Success

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

(Excerpted from the Jim Rohn Sampler single CD)

My first mentor, Mr. Shoaff, over a six-year period from the time I was 25 to age 31, taught me some extraordinarily simple things, before his untimely passing at age 49. He only went through the 9th grade in school. He never finished high school, never went to college, never went to a university. So he put his experiences and ideas in very simple language, which, I think for me – kid from the farms of Idaho – was so important. When I would say, “This is all the company pays.” Mr. Shoaff would say, “No, that is all they pay You.” I thought, “That is a new to look at it.” I told him things cost too much. But he said, “No, you can’t afford them.”

Well, that was a new concept for me. He promised that if I would improve, then I would qualify for more money. So I learned that we don’t have to work on the company, we have to work on ourselves. Now if it had been technical, I would have missed it. If it had been mystic, I would have backed away. But it was just basic, blunt “a-b-c” stuff that I hadn’t thought of before. For me it was the beginning of what he called “personal development”.

Mr. Shoaff also taught me that life puts some of the more valuable things on the high shelf so that you can’t get to them until you qualify. If you want the things on the high shelf, you must stand on the books you read. With every book you read, you get to stand a little higher.

And the “biggie” that forever had an impact on me, “Success is something you attract by the person you become.” That phrase changed my life. Success is not to be pursued, but to be attracted by the person you become. Put your energy into becoming a better you, the best you. Learn the skills. Practice the skills. Attract the success.

Those few simple strategies and ideas helped change my life, forever, for the better. Thank you, once again, Mr. Shoaff.

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

Is Gastric Bypass right for you?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Gastric bypass is a form of weight-loss surgery done on a lot of Americans today. The reason is because more and more Americans are suffering from obesity and excessive weight problems. In some cases, a gastric bypass is the only way to make losing weight possible. For most of us, gastric bypass is merely an option. The American Society for Bariatric Surgery reports that there were more than 63,000 of such surgeries being done in the United States alone in the year 2002.

However, it is important to note that a Gastric Bypass is not the right surgery for everyone. Think carefully because a gastric bypass is a very important surgery. It is not the magical solution to your weight problems and you will need to do extensive research before you commit to it. We have to emphasize that Gastric Bypass has a very high rate of complications although the procedure may sound relatively simple and effortless. Most doctors who perform gastric bypass would advise the patient to undergo a low-calorie diet for at least 6 months before they go for gastric bypass surgery. Undergoing a gastric bypass surgery, you may have to bear with the consequence of a possible life-threatening complication as a result of the gastric bypass surgery. Your doctor would be in the best position to advice you on whether you’re right for gastric bypass. Emotional and physical issues may have to be taken into account because this is essential to your recovery after the gastric bypass surgery.

However, because of the many possible dangers of undergoing a gastric bypass surgery, the Bariatrics Society designed and launched a program called the mini gastric bypass surgery. The mini gastric bypass surgeries are the less extensive versions of the more commonly used gastric bypass surgery. The mini gastric bypass surgery actually reconfigures the stomach so that absorption of food is reduced irregardless of how much food that person consumed. A mini gastric bypass surgery also changes the way food is absorbed. The mini gastric bypass surgery takes a shorter time to perform and the recovery for the patient is quicker too. However, there aren’t that many researches and studies done on mini gastric bypass surgeries as opposed to a major gastric bypass surgeries, therefore, many insurance companies cover the major gastric bypass surgery but not the mini gastric bypass surgery!

Would George W ever tell a lie?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Copyright 2006 Cole’s Poetic License

We Americans like to say George Washington wouldn’t tell lies because he was our first president. But you know he did. Everyone does.

Harriet Lerner writes, “Deception and con games are a way of life in all species and throughout nature. Organisms that do not improve their ability to deceive-and to detect deception-are less apt to survive.”

That’s some quote, isn’t it?

What do you think about lying?

Is it “right” sometimes and “wrong” others? Are there white, black and gray lies?

What lie did you tell today? I lied when I said I would never again ride a bus more than twenty miles. I lied about my weight on my driver’s license. (Shaved off four pounds)

Think of this:Through outwitting predators our species survived.

Survival is a basic instinct hard-wired into our brains. As our brains evolved, we developed cooperation. That involves trust and telling the truth. That, too, helped us survive: tribal teamwork.

A capitalistic economy is the natural result of these two instincts in our subconscious, primitive minds: competition and cooperation.

In any business both buyer and seller must trust each other and yet believe that he or she got, if not the best, at least an equal deal.

There’s may be some shaving of the truth on either side but belief is what matters.

* * *

I’m excited about current brain research applied to economics.

Using neuroimaging, scientists are looking inside the mind to see why people buy, sell, save or trust. They see which part of the brain lights up during financial negotiations.

Researchers at MIT wired the brains of currency speculators. They plotted the biological indicators of stress, exuberance and tension against real time profit and loss. Such measures document how involuntary emotions affect the rise and fall of stocks.

Harvard economist David Lailson says, “Our emotional brain wants to max out the credit card even though our logical brain knows we should save for retirement.”

But you know that. Advertisers know that every purchase is emotional-right out of the midbrain. When I recall how many times I bought something and then lied to the husband at the time about its costs!

I’ll stop confessing and wrap up with these:

* George Washington lied because he was human * It may be normal to lie, but only momentarily profitable * It’s normal to lie to ourselves, but always unprofitable to do so.

And one more quote:

“The people who burned witches at the stake never for one moment thought of their act as violence; rather they thought of it as an act of divinely mandated righteousness. The same can be said of most of the violence we humans have ever committed.” Gil Bailie

This can be paraphrased: The people who swindled others never for one moment thought of their actions as wrong; rather they thought of it as capitalistically mandated righteousness. The same can be said of most of the high stakes gambles corporations take.

It’s called “white-collar crime”. They lie to themselves saying, ” Everyone does it and we can get away with it.”

Maybe George W did lie. It’s human to lie, but “To thine own self, be true”, When you are true to yourself and understand your motives, all of your lies will be white ones.

To tell you the truth, I want everyone to investigate all the ways to learn about unconscious motives.

Go for a new house with easy loan, 429166 euro in one phone call

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 9 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 3 percent offered by competitors will change.

And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 8 percent. Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. See which lenders are charging fees 7 percent and for how much. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 5 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 6 percentage.

See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

Different lenders charge different fees. Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 10 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 6 percent. Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 9 percent.

Vacuum Pump Repair

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Vacuum pumps, which are the order of the day for household and industrial uses, often need repair. Dealers of vacuum pumps offer repair and maintenance at the time of purchase, as part of warranty or otherwise. Repair work is frequently undertaken by the manufacturers of particular brands, who often know the gadgets better. Otherwise, repair kits are available, with which an individual pump owner can repair the pump him- or herself.

Repair kits are available from numerous manufacturers and are an important part for users of vacuum pumps. If one volunteers to go through the “do-it-yourself” path before undertaking repairs, the pump should be sent to a detoxification center, if toxic substances were used in the pump earlier. Workspace, lots of emery paper, sealants, cleaning solvent, new oil, and facilities for disposal of the used oil are essential aspects. A manufacturer’s pump repair kit can cost about $400, and some brands cost up to $900. The kit contains a bag of gaskets, shaft seals, and “”O”" rings. Other items that will be needed include a pump repair stand, hammer, cigarette paper, and most likely a puller to remove the drive pulley.

Dismantle the pump, carefully taking notes on the order that the parts are removed. Clean the parts, using solvent and an emery cloth, and re-assemble with new parts and seals.

A new vacuum system and hot high-pressure cleaning system in one complete package is also available from several manufacturers who offer one year warranty. The cleaning package includes a powerful electric unit that can be run independently as a vacuum system or as a hot high-pressure washer. Many portals offer information about vacuum pump repair, components, and accessories, including fittings, filters, valves, oil, grease, traps, and repair kits.

Incidentally, it was found that air consumption could be reduced by 98 percent when a robot’s end-of-arm tool was equipped with particular technologies, entailing less repair and maintenance. Automotive manufacturers have found the system integration and the implementation of standard autoracking solutions to be extremely cost-effective and adaptable when working with different robot platforms.

Vacuum Pumps provides detailed information on Vacuum Pumps, Vacuum Pump Repair, Clutch Driven Vacuum Pumps, Used Vacuum Pumps and more. Vacuum Pumps is affiliated with Anti Static Mats.

7 Reasons You Need To Blog For Your Business

Friday, August 15th, 2008

If you are not blogging for your business then you should be. While many people simply dismiss blogging because of its description as a web diary they are missing a lot of traffic and revenue generating opportunities every day. Are you one of those missing out?

In truth blogs are much more than a simple web diary. They are actually a content management system and/or an easy web site template. Blogging software allows you to begin posting your content to the Internet in minutes and when you harness that ability with an RSS feed you have a powerful traffic magnet.

I have come up with 7 reasons why every business should have a blog and RSS feed.

1. Publishing a regularly updated blog helps you keep in touch with your existing audience and/or customer base. You can publish updates, news, or thoughts in your blog as well as answer questions.

2. A blog can help you attract new customers. Your blog entries (posts or articles) will become fodder for the search engines and will attract new visitors. If your blog answers the visitors question or attracts their interest you have just found another qualified lead.

3. Blogs and RSS feeds often rank higher in search engines than traditional web sites. Search engines love blogs and RSS feeds. If you design your blog properly then every time you update it the search engines are notified. Even if you don’t regularly ping most search engines will revisit blogs more frequently. Plus the very organization of a blog lends itself to spidering and good search engine ranking.

4. Blogs can help you establish or build your reputation in a particular field. As your blog grows you will demonstrate your knowledge in your chosen niche.

5. Blogs and RSS feeds are good revenue streams. You can add pay-per-click ads, affiliate ads, or sell ad space on your blogs. In fact, many PPC companies also provide the ability to add PPC to your RSS feeds.

6. Blogs are great ways to generate leads. Even if you don’t want to put any advertising on your blog you can use it to promote or capture leads for your own programs. These are great leads as the fact that they came from your blog means they are already interested in your topic and predisposed to your individual message.

7. Creating your own blog is the easiest way to establish a presence on the Internet and creating an RSS feed is even easier. In fact, it is also the cheapest way to get started on the Internet as there are a number of free blogging sites out there. I started out with http://blogger.com and usually recommend them but have heard others point to several other top blogging sites as well. The blogging software that I now use is WordPress and also happens to be free. In fact, most web hosts now offer WordPress (or other free blogging software) as a free site add-on through Fantastico. Installing WordPress from scratch is quick and easy but Fantastico makes it even easier. Blogs created at Blogger have an RSS feed created for them and WordPress also creates feeds in several variations automatically.

As you can see there are several benefits to starting your own blog and RSS feed. If you can count that many benefits from an Internet marketing technique that is also free and easy then you are foolish not to begin using it for yourself.

Video Games versus Online Poker

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

So, which game is it for you? Online poker or video games? They’re similar, and yet they’re miles apart.

Online poker, for instance, is interactive and played on a screen, just like video games. However, there’s a social aspect to it that even the best online cooperative video games just cannot match.

That’s not to say there aren’t some decent online video games out there that allow players to legitimately interact with other players. It’s just that, on average, the heart-pounding competition one gets from playing online poker trumps some shooter any day of the week.

In video games, you have nothing to lose. Die or get knocked out of a race, and all you have to do is hit continue. No worries. But in online poker, every decision you make has an impact on your bottom line. Want to raise? Careful, because that big time move, while intimidating to other players, is going to involve you putting hard earned cash on the line. Still feel confident? Are you thinking about how much better this is than some no-risk, no-reward online role playing game?

Congrats, you’re playing online poker. Nothing better on a screen anywhere in the world. Bar none.
