Garden Sheds Don’t Have to Be Too Dear if You Purchase On-line and Take Advantage of the Great Selection

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

There are a lot of sound reasons why you might require a garden shed and fortunately there are garden sheds to suit just about every need. Cheap Garden Sheds may be bought just about everywhere but what you will find out is the price will vary hugely. You shouldn’t have to abandon the garden shed you want because it is excessively pricey though. A garden shed is something you buy once and use for years and when you have a look on-line you can obtain cheap garden sheds at some pretty silly prices. I do not mean silly and cheap as in quality but as in cost. You’ll find you can find the garden shed you need for the cost of the one you were close to settle for a lot less and if you possess a garden that you tend to each day you will almost in all likelihood need to look into Cheap sheds as a place to put the tools, water hose and fertilizer etc..

Looking after your tools and having them easily obtainable is a real good idea. You can find cheap sheds on the internet that are the very same sheds you’d purchase in the shop. As A Matter Of Fact, you can go to the store and shop even spot them to see if it is what you need then go on-line and purchase it for a whole lot less. The difference in cost is significant!

Jazz Music: History of Jazz Music in Kansas City

Friday, February 27th, 2009

>From its beginnings as nothing more than a simple trading post on the banks of the Missouri river, to its raucous heyday in the 1920’s and 30’s, Kansas City has retained the independent spirit of its frontier beginnings. Even though an assortment of colorful characters, cowboys, politicians, criminals, and even wagon trains populate the history of Kansas City, you can forget everything you’ve ever heard about it being a “cow town.” Today, the outgrowth of that colorful history and frontier spirit radiates energetically throughout the city and its populace.

Widely regarded as the birthplace of Jazz. KC’s early reputation as a “wide-open, anything goes” city captivated and allured the musical performers of the day. It’s central location and ease of access via rail were the other components which induced this musical migration. Kansas City became a haven for musicians and fans alike.

The musicians, who interpreted their experiences in KC’s permissive environment through their music, were also creating the elastic techniques and musical license, which remain at the heart of Jazz today. The hub of this development was the 18th and Vine district. Many legendary musicians, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Turner and Charlie Parker to name a few, made their way to Kansas City. Their connection to one another and to the Kansas City “scene” brought about a unique musical expansion which enriched the city’s history and initiated the genesis of Jazz.

Kansas City’s affiliation with Jazz is celebrated daily at the American Jazz Museum in the 18th and Vine District and nightly at clubs and restaurants throughout the city. Live Jazz and Blues are still an important part of the Kansas City entertainment and nightlife scene.

Kansas City’s early sports history, specifically its affiliation with Negro League Baseball, is showcased in detail at the Negro League Baseball Museum.

Also located at the 18th and Vine District, the museum documents the history of Negro League Baseball from its beginnings in the mid 1800’s, to its demise in the 1960’s. If you are interested in this facet of the histoy of baseball, a visit to this museum is highly recommended.

A part-time writer and full-time webmaster, Joseph Patrick, can usually be found managing his full service travel website, http://www.Triptactics.com where you will find the resources to book affordable trips to Kansas City as well as other exciting vacation destinations.

5 Reasons To Avoid PublishAmerica

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Ever since I first wrote about my publishing pitfalls with PublishAmerica, I’ve received a lot of correspondence from writers asking me if they too should avoid publishing with this notorious online POD company. So, in response to yet another letter from an unpublished author, I’ve been motivated to write about the top five reasons why one shouldn’t hand over their manuscript to this Frederick, Maryland based online publisher.

Although a person can go to any search engine such as Yahoo or Google and type in the term “PublishAmerica” or “Publish America” [using the quotes gets more results], many authors refrain from doing this. This is a gigantic mistake on their part as they generally have squandered a manuscript that they’ve spent many months or years working on, and have eliminated their chances at getting published with a legitimate publisher.

PublishAmerica is a tiny online based publishing company run by a trio of unpublished authors, namely Dutch born and raised Willem Meiners who speaks and writes English as a second language, Larry Clopper, a computer programmer, and Miranda Prather, a poet. Unlike the “traditional” mainstream publishers that they are constantly comparing themselves to, this executive staff is under the delusion that they are changing the publishing industry. Instead of admitting on their patriotic looking web site that they are a vanity POD [Print On Demand] publisher with a strict no-returns policy that exists solely to sell the authors’ books back to the author him or herself, this company pretends that they are radically altering the publishing world.

Authors, if the above hasn’t already dissuaded you from signing a PublishAmerica contract, please think about the following points:

1.Your book will NOT be stocked in a chain or independent bookstore due to the no-returns policy, high cover price, and short discount.
2.The Publish America team of editors consists of teenagers and young adults who run spelling/grammar checks on manuscripts, which doesn’t amount to much if you have ever used a standard word processing editing program. They also have a non-editing option you can choose which will allow your book to be released in a matter of weeks rather than months. Editing for story, length, characterization, and content doesn’t exist in the PublishAmerica editing stable.
3.You will receive an author’s questionnaire in which you are asked to disclose up to 100 names of family members, friends, and associates. It states: “Also, please do not include businesses or organizations of any kind, including bookstores, media contacts, or government organizations. Include friends and associates only.” Why are they so shy of staying away from the media if their wish is to actually SELL books?
4.Twice a year, March and September, marks the season for minuscule royalty checks. Think of the time and effort you put in to writing your book. Add up the $30 copyright fee you paid, the number of books you bought yourself, the amount of money you forked over to get a web site and/or ANY type of online and offline promotional effort, and divide that into the amount you receive – usually less than $20!
5.Look at the numbers of authors and author’s advocates out there who write about what a scam PublishAmerica really is. Not just one or two disgruntled authors, but hundreds of them. Over on the Absolute Write Forum we have over 900 pages of the NeverEnding Publish America thread. Mindsight and Writers Net have similarly vast amounts of web space devoted to warning and educating people about the drawbacks of being a Publish America author.

And finally, think about the time frame of that seven-year long contract which is what Publish America offers. In some states you could commit some pretty nasty felonies and get less prison time than that! Perhaps a more appropriate slogan would be: PublishAmerica, imprisoning authors one book at a time!

What you should check before applying For A Web Host Provider?

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Once you have applied for a web host provider you should take several aspects into account such as the time it takes to load or the period of time it is up.These aspects are very important because if there are problems related to them, this can create extreme annoyance nd renouncement of the possible visitors.

The same possible visitors can also have problems in finding your web page, as search engines do not show those who are always down or have difficulties in loading. The best method to acknowledge if a server is usually up would be to take a look over the reviews written by other persons who have applied for the server before you.In the case of a hobby websiter or, in other words, if you will not be making any transactions on that particular website, the SSL protection is not necessary. In the other case, if transactions should be made in the near future it is necessary for you to choose the webhost which includes the SSL protection upfront.

Deciding to subscribe to a webhost which does not comprise of SSL protection and choosing

afterwards to have it installed, could turn up to be more expensive than having applied for a webhost which provides SSL in the first place.Despite of the fact that these server side scripting is provided by almost all servers, it is still advisable to check out if they do.Pages changing in real time are given the chance to be created by the webmasters due to the server side scripting. For instance, in the case of running a business and having all products arranged in a database, the server side scripting will give off the pages by means of the ranges the customers choose to see.

The support given to customers is of an utmost importance when choosing a web hoser.Even in the case of an experienced webmaster, I am sure that there are still some questions to be asked when signing up with a website. Some of them have created special forums for frequently asked questions.Actually the only one of this type I found up to now is Even tough these aspects are widely known, the attention should be drawn anyway, for there are many persons who pay significant sums after having signed to a web hoster on the basis of having ignored these conditions.Taken this into account, the collaboration should be nothing but successfully.

How I Spent My Free Poker Money on UB

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I recently got a free $50 on Ultimate Bet via Poker Source Online, and I have decided that I run about as bad on UB as I do on every other site. I dumped all $50 straight into a .10/.25 NL Holdem game. I was sitting with the full buy-in of $550, while most other people were playing with half that or less. Two things are wrong with this: 1. I can’t double up through people if they all have less money than me; 2. I can’t make multiple street bluffs or 3+bet because they’re always committing themselves.

So, ok. The big stack basically affords me to be aggressive with a lot of hands in position preflop. I’ll raise with a large percentage of hands, and hopefully this will get me action later in the session. Early on I get into a hand with someone who has about $12. I either limp in or call a small raise with Ad9d out of position, maybe even in one of the blinds. It comes K,9,5 with two diamonds. So, I flop middle pair and a flush draw. I check, the guy bets out about $1.50 and I raise all in, content to either win the pot right here or have good odds to win if he calls me. He does call, and he has k,9 for two pair. I can win with any diamond or any of the three remaining aces. 12 outs, twice…I’m slightly behind in a coin flip, about 55/45. Not only do I miss, but another king peels off. Essentially, I didn’t mind losing $12 here. Many hands would have folded when faced to make a decision for their entire stack, and it also shows that I’m willing to gamble.

I play for about an hour and end the session down about $10. I try out some sit and go’s and jump up to .25/.50, but get cut short because my brother needed help shaving his head, and end up losing another $10 or so. The next day I decide to try multitabling the micro stakes poker. I jump into 3 tables at .05/.10. At most I was up about 12 dollars combined, but then I got felted on one table where I raised with AA and got called by 2 players. The flop came 10d,8d,3h. I lead out for $1, get min raised to $2 and then I shove for something like 3 more bucks. I get called by 77. He has one diamond. The turn is a 6 and the river is a 9. He made a runner, runner straight. Disgusted I end my poker session down $2.

6 Reasons You Need A Website

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

If you don’t have a website, then you might not realize all the great things they can do for you. Maybe you think there wouldn’t be any point, because your business is too small – or maybe you don’t even have a business! Perhaps you think it’d be a lot of work for little reward. Or maybe you paid big bucks for a site back during the dot-com ‘boom’ days, only to get nothing but trouble out of it and shut it down a year later.

Whatever your situation is, though, you need a website, and I’m here to tell you why.

1. People Will Look for You Online.

Sooner or later, someone’s going to type your name into a search engine. What do you want them to find? Nothing? These are people who want to find you, and if you don’t have a website then you’re letting them down – they expect you to be online. For many people, you might as well not exist if you can’t be found with a search engine. Not having a website is like not bothering to get listed in the phone book. Whether it’s customers or old school friends you’re hoping for, very few people are going to find you if you aren’t online.

2. Websites Cost Next to Nothing.

Once, it cost a lot to run a website – but those days are long gone. There are ‘pay as you go’ services out there now charging as little as $1 per gigabyte of bandwidth. If you’re sensible about the size of your pages, that dollar could last you a whole month, or even longer! If you don’t want to pay for design, it’s never been simpler to do it yourself, or find free software to do it for you. Really, it’s never been cheaper to have a website than it is today.

3. Websites are Great Advertising.

Whatever you’re advertising – your services, your products, or just yourself – a website is a great way to do it. Every other kind of advertising going costs a premium, especially if you want to target a specific kind of person, and there’s no guarantee that they’re paying attention. Websites are like brochures that are free to reproduce, interactive, and quickly distributed to people who are already looking for them. No advertising medium even comes close to the ease-of-use and effectiveness of a website.

4. A Website is a Worldwide Presence.

On the web, it doesn’t matter whether someone is next door to you or on the other side of the world – they can see your website just the same as anyone else can, at no extra cost to you or to them. Phone and post both cost enormous amounts long-distance, but a website lets you send information anywhere without any extra effort or expense. You can make friends and contacts in places you’ve never been and will never go – suddenly, working globally is no more effort than working locally.

5. Your Website Can Make You Money.

There’s a lot of money on the web, and it’s not hard to get some – the longer you’re online for, the bigger your share can get. If you have something to sell, you can sell it worldwide, thanks to credit cards. Doing business online eliminates almost every overhead there is: all you need to do is have the goods. If you’ve written something useful, you can put it out there with a few ads. You won’t get rich overnight, but you can set up a steady trickle of income… and there’s no limit to the number of trickles you can set up.

6. Your Website Can Save You Time.

Giving out information takes time, whether it’s on the phone, or in brochures, or even if it’s just emailing your family. Websites are designed to save you time. All your family and friends can read your online diary (known as a weblog), but you only had to write it once. Customers can see your whole product catalogue without ever needing to talk to you or visit you. This is the power of the web: things on it are written only once, but can be downloaded endlessly – a good website runs itself, and keeps being useful to people for much longer than you’d expect.

Does your web host affect search engine optimization?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Most people will lease hosting from a company, just because they find a great deal. They don’t even stop to think of the long term affects of the company’s policies. Believe it or not, your web host has a dramatic involvement in your search engine rank potential.

Let’s say you have a website, and no matter what you do, you just cannot seem to get high search engine rankings. You have performed all of the proper SEO techniques, yet you hardly find your website in a search engine even just by typing in the URL, leave alone keywords. Have you ever stopped to think that your host may have some involvement in it? Well, it is quite possible that your host has you on a server that has had its IP address banned or Blacklisted.

When a hosting company is careless enough to allow its clients to use unethical tactics at search engine optimization, some search engines will ban, block, or blacklist that IP address. One of the most popular reasons that this may happen is the use of certain spam tactics. This may not always be clients fault. Some websites do get attacked by hackers that use that sites email forms for spam However, regardless of whether the hosting client was to blame, or an attacker, the IP is still banned and it may be rough road to recovery.

There are things that can be done to prevent such occurrences. Things like prohibiting some types of email forms, and setting limits on emails that are sent. Things like educating clients on proper techniques, or by providing education for them are good ways to help clients. A good hosting company can stay in touch with its clients through newsletters, and a good support system.

The responsibility lies on the hosting company, and the client. It is up to the hosting company to provide the means and standards, and it is up to the client to abide by them. Finding a good hosting company is a difficult task these days. There are many out there, but knowing which ones will serve you the best is the challenge. Before purchasing from a hosting company, try checking out their support forums. You can learn a lot from their client’s forum posts, as well as see how well the company responds to support requests. If the clients seem to be unhappy, or if there are many complaints, it might be an indication that you should look elsewhere.

Your website is probably intended to be a source of revenue, or just a place for fun and entertainment. In either case, wouldn’t it be nice if people could find it? Don’t hurt your chances of hitting it big in the search engines even before you start. Find a good hosting company, and you will at least have a fighting chance.

Service Company Intranet Scheduling Systems; Case Study

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Real time service company scheduling systems are important during the heat of battle. You are racing against the clock to fit in all your customers both regular customers and call ins, while trying to squeeze in the emergency calls. Yes, I know exactly how it is. I founded the Car Wash Guys Franchise. Car Wash Guys.com

What we learned over the coarse of many years was that on the routes our crews would schedule work, then we would have 1-800 call ins thru an outsourced call center and later we added online ordering. You can imagine the conflicts with each crew doing some 6-20 stops per day and cleaning 60 cars and a couple of fleets in the order of 100 additional units to be cleaned.

We had regular customers and modification of schedules for rain days, 4-day work weeks or fewer particular days in a month for every other week customers or weekly customers who would not allow for more than 4 washes per month so they could average their own budgets. Can you say nightmare along with growing pains as we set up our units in 110 cities in 23 states? Yes that is what we thought.

Eventually we regionalized the call centers and synchronized the online orders and used PDA wireless devices and later got tricky taking payments in parking lots for on the spot jobs when the real-time scheduling system showed spaces, as our franchisees and their commission incentive truck managers did what ever it took to fill in those far and few between spaces in the schedule.

The Intranet system is a must for all small and regional route dispatched service companies. Originally a franchisee came up with the modification of the Intranet systems, hen he said;

“I would love to be able to schedule manage our routes. Whenever we set up a regular account. . . add it to the calendar. If we get a page and have a one-off detail. . . add to the calendar; something that would be quick, easy, efficient. I would imagine it would mirror the Yahoo Calendar (http://calendar.yahoo.com/) You could log in and make changes as needed. You could get a view that could be a daily printout for the managers so they always have a list of appointments. and can keep their schedule tight.”

Upon looking into this idea and figuring it all out, we produced it and it was quickly adopted and loved by our team. We did not do it exactly like this, however you can see the format. Eventually we had the system set up so that the franchisee or route drivers in multi-unit franchises could enter the amount of cars they got at each account and the system gave an average so when the teams did their daily printout the franchise owner or manager could have an idea of what to expect.

If numbers started decline, we were able to take action to remedy the situation, if they increased steadily we had heads up a HQ that we would need more trucks/units in our production pipeline (each service unit was custom built by our company).

Of course over the years we kept adding to the system to make it more robust and introduced a sales call tickler system with contact management software so teams could make so many sales calls per week while in the area. We became more efficient and crushed the competition into oblivion (in a nice way).

Our teams had trouble with all the sales and walk up inquires and some had glove boxes full of 50 different pieces of paper (all different sizes) with names and numbers all over the place at the end of a week and it got overwhelming. I hope Bill Gate’s is not reading this, as we have finally adopted his anti-form and anti-paper paperless officer theories now. Today all the personal contact managers are integrated and the system works fine. Think on this in 2006.

Ten Ways NOT to Set Up a Website-based Service Business

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

1. As the first step, “Hire a web designer.”

First create a storyboard of your website, based on your strategy.

2. Focus on graphics, typefaces and colors.

Focus on potential clients and customers.

3. Avoid anything that has to do with “strategy.”

Spend more time on strategy than on website design.

4. Rely on your web designer for all the updates.

Only if your designer is also your significant other! You may need to make changes as often as once a day. Even if you have infinite financial resources, your designer may not have infinite time for you.

5. Avoid learning HTML.

You need a smattering of HTML even if you use a package. If something goes wrong, you’ll save time if you can take a quick peek at the source code.

6. Take a course in web design after your site has gone public.

You may not need a course. Begin with a practice website, using a free package like Netscape’s Composer, or PageMill, which has been bundled with iMacs. Most ISP’s offer free websites for personal use. Don’t use the “quick design” option: Write your own code and practice uploading!

7. Rely on submitting your name to search engines to generate traffic.

Supplement by submitting content to popular sties.

8. Refuse to pay for a pro to help with writing web content.
If your strength lies in pictoral or oral communication, get help! Words count.

9. Ignore your competitive websites.

Don’t steal what’s copyrighted, but learn from everybody else.

10. Create a concept that requires more than three sentences to explain.

You’re lucky if your audience listens beyond the first sentence.
