50NL Tips
Monday, August 31st, 2009Once you get to the 50 NL level, you’re going to start playing with online poker players who play a little more seriously than those at the lower levels. So in this article I plan on giving you a few tips to help you out when you’re grinding these casino tables with your 50 dollar buy ins. First, position-position-position. If you’re not familiar with positional play, then get a book and start reading. Start scanning the forums out there for tips on positional play. One of the things I’ve noticed is that the players at this level, love to limp in early and middle position. It’s almost like they live to limp then fold to a raise. Remember this and raise your hands in position. You’ll find that a lot of the time you’ll start taking out pots with just a simple raise from the cutoff or the button. Another thing you’ll notice is that a lot of the players don’t do a lot of 3 and 4 betting. If you 3bet an open raiser, about 80% of the time, you’ll get cold called. Again, this is one of those situations that you can take advantage of with a swift cbet on the flop. And if you get called again, well, you can either double barrel, or give up and check call. Which brings me to my last point. A lot of you reading this may be saying, “check call? WTF?” Yes, check call. I say this because at this level, again you’re running into a lot of novice players that know how to play AB….semiC online poker. One of the biggest leaks in the regular players at this level is bet sizing. They don’t know how to do it correctly and a lot of the time, you’ll get min raised on the turn giving you 1:9000 odds or so to simply check call if you’re on a big draw. You do remember pot odds don’t you?
