Delicious Presents: the Popcorn Factory

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Try and imagine, for a moment, what 1.000.000.000 pounds of unprepared popcorn kernels must look like – and when you remember that that’s a single year’s domestic retail sales alone, it will rapidly become apparent just how many of your personal friends love their popcorn. You can get yours from the biggest in the market – shipping a million or more pounds every year to you and people like you of gourmet popcorn balls. And if you were in doubt, they’ve even gone the full mile to establish that it’s kosher certified.

For three decades, this famous confectionery supplier has provided the nation with this toothsome foodstuff in many beautiful flavors. Preparations get under way using domestic corn carefully culled to ensure the best possible flavor. With corn oil, you can keep that flavor as the kernels pop, meaning you can add other flavorings easily. And to make sure of that fresh taste? To maintain it, straight after cooking, the corn is swiftly packaged up to be sent out. Why not try a 6 gallon tin, packed with popcorn? They can help. There is no better way to be sure your friends have snacks – or even a business event. Plain, naturally, and buttered – but they’re also available in banana cream pie or white chocolate raspberry.

However if these are too big, they can offer different options; notably a range of smaller tins and boxes. Like most gifts, these can be redesigned to fit the reason they’re being given. If that’s not enough, you could raise the stakes, using an appropriate image, a witty note, or the recipient’s name. Many shoppers love a particular flavor and choose a large package. Customers with wider interests might investigate the assortment packages and samplers available. However, should you want a larger variety, there’s an alternative – the tower. Made up of several containers loaded atop the others and fastened together, you may order them with specific kinds or you can choose to mix and match to your tastes.

The popcorn Factory offers an astonishing variety of popcorn in almost any flavor you might want. And with their presentation, too, they’re superb presents. Surely this column has given you plenty of novel gift-giving possibilities.

Four Little Weight Loss Secrets

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Carbohydrates are the ruin of many dieters, but we must keep in mind that without a supply of sugars from carbohydrates, our body will burn it’s own sources of protein and fat to meet its energy requirements. And yes, we want our body to burn fat, that’s the key to losing weight, but we do not want our body to burn the protein from our to keep us functional.

Not all carbohydrates are similar. The enemy of our waist line is not carbohydrates themselves, but certain types of carbohydrates and how they metabolize in our system. We can best distinguish carbohydrates in terms of simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbs are found in sugary and processed foods, complex carbohydrates are found in whole foods like fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes.

Weight Loss Secret #1: Go for the complex carbs.

When it comes to high carb foods, another very important factor to keep in mind is the glycemic index of foods. The glycemic index is a numeric designation that tells us how quickly the sugars in a food break down into glucose in the digestive process. Glucose enters our bloodstream, increases our blood sugar level and then triggers insulin in order to keep blood sugar from getting too high. Insulin, aside from lowering blood sugar, tells the body to store fat. If there is an enemy to your waist line, it is not carbs, but high insulin levels.

Weight Loss Secret #2: Eat low glycemic foods

We don’t want to neglect the other basic food groups, proteins and fat. Contrary to conventional belief, fat restriction does not necessarily promote weight loss. We need good fats in our diet or we will start to crave fatty foods. Good fats help our bodies break down our food more efficiently and therefore actually enhances fat burn, ironic as that may seem. What are the nutritious fats? A group of fats called essential fatty acids, the omega-3 and omega-6 oils. You can find them in nuts (especially walnuts), seeds (the best of which is flax), salmon, avocado, and olive oil.

Weight Loss Secret #3: Eat good fats every day

Finally, protein. We also need it every day, but not too much. Protein is instrumental in weight loss because it keeps our blood glucose levels stable, thus keeping insulin levels ideal. Good food sources of protein are legumes, chicken (not fried!), fish (not fried!), and lean beef.

Weight Loss Secret #4: Eat your protein: not too much, not too little

Bottom line is that a healthy diet of low carbs, low glycemic foods, healthy fats and lean protein will give you the best chance for permanent quick weight loss and keep you well nourished in the process.

A Purifying Diet for Health and Weight Loss

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Our environment and diets carry an overwhelming number of chemicals, some of which are toxic to our body even in moderate quantities, and most of which are hard on our body’s natural purifying capability. As well as doing several seasonal whole body or intestinal cleanses a year, you can preserve a healthy, clean body by adapting your regular daily diet toward a purifying diet. In addition to offering year round body cleansing, a cleansing diet will help you maintain improved health, better energy and mood, and a lower weight. Many people have experienced lasting weight loss through natural detox methods.

The easiest way to switch to a cleansing diet for health and weight loss is to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and significantly reduce your consumption of fatty foods, processed foods and sugary foods. Here are several guidelines for which foods to include in your cleansing diet:

2-5 servings of fresh fruit a day. Limit bananas and dried fruits. Dried fruits can be soaked overnight.

2 raw salads every day, at lunch and dinner.

2 servings of Grilled chicken (not fried!), fish or tofu for your protein. Lean red meat on occasion.

Vegetable juice every day if possible. Best veggies are cucumber, celery, carrot, beets and parsley. If you don’t have time or equipment to juice your own vegetable juice, purchase it fresh in a big quantity, portion it into 2 oz portions and freeze for future consumption.

Sea vegetables (seaweed) daily or several times a week. Granulated dulse and kelp are simple to use. Powdered seaweeds can be used as a salt substitute.

Finally, drink more water. Aim for a gallon a day of fresh, spring water. Some of your daily quota can include unsweetened herbal tea. No sweetened drinks. Sodas and bottled juices do not hydrate, they just add more substances to your body’s system.

Detox with a Brown Rice Diet

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

A 7 day brown rice diet is one of the easiest forms of body detoxing for the unpracticed because it furnishes essential nutrients, detoxifies the body in a gentle way (thus producing lighter detox side effects) and doesn’t involve the experience of starvation as a juice cleanse can.

According to the brown rice detox diet, you only eat brown rice for two to seven days. You will not have the challenge of being hungry or suffering low blood sugar. It’s acceptable to flavour your rice with miso or Bragg’s Amino Acids, similar to soy sauce but much better since it merely contains natural sodium. A tablespoon of miso paste with garlic and ginger powder will spice up your brown rice diet. Other herbs for flavouring are also acceptable, however, be moderate. For a little metabolic lift, add a little chilli pepper pepper. You can also use a little agave nectar, maple syrup or brown rice syrup for a sweet dish. But only do this once a day, if at all.

In order to keep your blood sugar levels stable, eat six small servings of brown rice throughout the day. For convenience, you can cook one or two day’s worth of brown rice at a time. Learn how to cook brown rice.

Be sure to have 3 to 4 quarts of water a day. Include herbal teas as well. Peppermint is a good tea, red clover will support body detoxification and a laxative tea at night before bed will help keep your colon moving.

About UK Aqua:

UK Aqua Ltd was formerly part of the Office Champions group which was established by breakaway senior management from one of the UKs largest employers and facilities management businesses a recognised plc. By October 2006 UK Aqua Ltd reached a size where separation from the parent group was a logical step to allow management to focus on continued increasing growth rates.

While a caffeinated soda may seem like a good way to get through the day the truth is that water will go a lot further to keeping you awake and on-task. It can also filter out some organic minerals which we actually need to maintain good health. Sadly progress has made well water unsafe to drink and so well owners have had to find new ways to purify and filter the contaminants from their well water to ensure well being.

Many tests have proved that showers will lead to a greater exposure to the toxic chemicals present in public water supplies than the drinking water. Thus providing water in the form it is available in nature. From desktop to freestanding bottle water coolers can fit on any table desk corner or between furniture without depending on water supply pipe and tap exit locations.

This water is definitely safe to use but it is not pure – not in the form it is available in nature – enriched with minerals. Chloramine in some cases is used as a substitute for chlorine but is not very effective against Giardia cysts and viruses. Those are signs to get water into your body and fast! Water not only quenches our thirst it also has many other responsibilities.

Diabetic Exchange Diet Plan – Points to Consider

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Your diabetic exchange diet plan should be created and optimized according to the peculiarities of your body, your constitution, your eating habits and lifestyle. You will certainly find a number of plan samples. All of them are developed on a general basis that does not take into account individual peculiarities that we all have.

Diabetic exchange diet plan as most of the rest diet plans is based on simple (or may be not that simple) structural division of foods into categories. Commonly there distinguish the following categories/groups: starches, meat and meat substitutes, vegetables, fruits, milk and fats. In addition there are also such groups as free foods, sweets, desserts, and combination foods. This is done to verify that the right quantity of a certain food is eaten per day. The number of servings, or “exchanges,” from a category that you can consume each day depends on how many calories you need.

All diabetic diets and diet plans are commonly aimed at lowering and control of blood sugar level. It is critical to closely observe and record the food you eat while on the diet. Distribute your exchanges over the course of a day and be consistent about following this pattern everyday. This will spread out the amount of carbohydrates that you are consuming, which will help regulate your blood sugar.

Nutritionists in the 21st Century

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

As obesity continues to skyrocket in the United States for both children and adults, people are often wondering what they should be eating and what is good for them. Conflicting information on diets (protein, no protein, ‘good’ carbs, ‘bad’ carbs, trans-fats, etc.) continue to confuse most anyone who listens to the media. Nutritionists can help decode the 21st century facts and myths of nutrition and food, and help determine the best foods to eat.

Nutritionists are health care specialists who helps answer questions on nutrition, health, and diet. Based on their knowledge and expertise, they can give advice on what to eat for preventative nutrition or for certain diseases and health ailments, establish healthy eating guidelines, and assist in planning meals and menus.

As the population continues to age, more and more people are seeking the advice of nutritionists in order to get sound information on what they should be eating. Many diseases such as digestive problems, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and obesity can be improved or managed through healthy eating. Athletes and children also see nutritionists on a regular basis so that they can improve athletic performance, or address health issues at a younger age.

The terms nutritionists and dieticians are sometimes used interchangeably, which can cause confusion; a registered dietician is a licensed health care worker that has completed a bachelor’s degree, and has passed a national exam administered by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). A dietician does the same tasks as a nutritionist, but may be more involved with meal planning aspects in hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.

Certified nutritionists are certified by the American Board of Nutrition or the Certification Board for Nutrition Specialists, and has advanced degrees in nutrition or medicine. If a person is not certified, they may not have the proper credentials in terms of formal education or training. If you are consulting a nutritionist, ask to see their credentials. There are certification programs that people can take that will provide formal education, but which may not be recognized by the state.

For those that struggle with weight or health problems, a trip to a nutritionist is a must. They can give sound advice, and develop meal guidelines and plans based on an individual’s health and lifestyle. Individual nutrition counseling can be much more effective than general suggestions, since it is tailored specifically for an individual. It is especially important to get children involved with nutritionists if they are experiencing health or weight problems, since habits can be reformed easier at an earlier age.

Nutrition information in the 21st century is a confusing mass of information where conflicting ideas, diets, and advice abound. It is extremely difficult to sort out what is right and wrong. Talk to trained nutritionists to find out what food makes sense for you, and how you can become healthier through what you eat.

Minerals Needed for Good Health

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Living a healthy life is a major challenge in our lives today. In spite of if all the hype about a healthy diet, exercise and numerous supplements, good health in the true sense of the word still remains a cause of concern for all of us. All attempts to rid our bodies of diseases result either in partial success or in some other side effects. Every time the concept of a healthy mind in a healthy body evades us. To understand why this happens we must have an idea of what constitutes the human body and how it functions.

The human system requires various nutrients and micronutrients to function in an optimal manner. One of these micro-nutrients is minerals which are vital to the proper functioning of the body. Minerals are needed to maintain the delicate cellular fluid balance, to form bone and blood cells, to provide for electrochemical nerve activity, and to regulate muscle tone and activity (including organ muscles like the heart, stomach, liver, etc.). Any imbalance in minerals causes a malfunction which in scientific terminology is called disease. Here it is important to note that while our body is capable of synthesizing several essential compounds on its own, it is not capable of synthesizing its own minerals. These minerals have therefore to be supplied through the diet. But the unhealthy modern lifestyles and depleted foods are unable to provide sufficient supply of these minerals. In case of processed foods which are so much in vogue these days the processing leaches out the minerals required by our bodies thus necessitating supplementation. A normal diet does not contain the recommended daily dose (RDA) of most minerals and this makes supplementation crucial.

Research shows that an inadequate supply of minerals leads to a variety of diseases including depression, low back pain, arthritis, poor digestion and cardiovascular disease. Not surprisingly these studies also relate mineral deficiency to inadequate diet—-foods which are nutrient-poor, highly processed foods including white flour, refined sugar and harmful fats.
Thus we see that minerals are exogenously sourced micronutrients crucial to the smooth execution of innumerable functions within the human body. These essential atomic particles are integral to maintaining tissues, producing energy, synthesizing hormones and repairing cellular damage. Minerals also commonly partner with enzymesintricate proteins produced by living cellsto catalyze biochemical reactions. Minerals also help reduce the probability of all kinds of infections as they render valuable support to the immune system.

Coming to supplementation, the issue of bio-availability is of particular relevance. In simple words, these minerals will not be accepted by the human body in crude form. If taken as such they may result in toxicity. We therefore must study numerous factors that can affect mineral absorption, including overall health status, interaction with other nutrients, the presence of certain other diseases and conditions, age and delivery method. Fortunately, mineral absorption can be increased in most individuals by learning how to take supplemental minerals; improving diet; obtaining adequate exercise, nutrition and rest; and reducing stress.

Plant derived as minerals known as colloidal minerals are the easiest minerals to assimilate and the most natural state of minerals that the body can use. Harsh man made minerals are mostly discharged from the body as waste. A waste to the body and to your budget.
