Future of Broadband Enabled Gadgets

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

ABI Research has recently published a report after a study of growing trends of making gadgets like cameras, PNDs and e-book readers broadband enabled and of the growing demand for such devices.

The report suggests that the end users are very happy with such devices, which means that in recent future, the manufacturers will have to make more of these gadgets and market them across the world. It seems that the shipment of such devices will rise by a factor of 55 within six years, i.e., between 2008 and 2014. In addition, by 2012, approximately 58 million broadband enabled devices will be shipped annually.

This has led to a debate regarding how the products should be sent across to the end users. The existing system was not built for broadband enabled cameras or e-books. In fact, the existing broadband system ties the gadget to one service provider permanently, leading to the end user being stuck with one particular system in spite of paying for all the necessary devices.

The report suggests that there is a need to change the way the gadgets are made and sold. There is a need to look at how broadband is provided in these gadgets in order to make them cost effective. It may lead to a change in the existing business model, which is not perfectly suitable for such gadgets and broadband necessary for them.

If you need more information on mobile broadband, or the mobile broadband providers, look at mobile.broadbandgenie.co.uk. I found some useful information on pay as you go mobile broadband; it is worth a look at the website for and their comparative table of UK broadband providers, which includes an analysis of the products and services.

Parliament to Look for Loopholes in Digital Communications Plans

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Parliament is going to conduct an inquiry into the future prospects of high-speed broadband communication across the UK. Lord Carter’s Digital Britain report that has been subject to much criticism for its vague and unrealistic schemes will also be subject to thorough investigation regarding its effectiveness.

According to www.parliament.uk, the parliamentary committee will investigate if the government’s target of delivering broadband at 2Mb speeds to every subscriber across the UK by 2012 is indeed good enough. It will also investigate how practical and effective the government’s next generation access plans are.

The levying of tax on copper lines to finance the laying out of fibre optic cables as part of bringing improvements in broadband infrastructure will be investigated. Parliament will also examine if ISP companies are providing speeds lower than what they are promising to subscribers – click for a broadband speed check to see if you are getting the broadband speed you were promised by your internet service provider.

The conclusions arrived at by the committee after the inquiry ends will be made public not before October, as the Parliament will continue to gather evidence on the broadband scenario till the last week of September.

Even though Parliament’s inquiry will cover almost every aspect related to digital networking, the issue of upload speeds has not found any mention in the inquiry committee’s agenda.

Some of the products and services that clients continuously need are directory assistance, toll-free number services and temporary number services.

Directory assistance is essential for people who want to stay connected to both their personal and professional contacts. There may be instances when contact between parties is lost for a period of time, and in those situations directory assistance, friends and business contacts can locate the client’s contact number without any difficulties.

Toll-free number services are essential for businesses who want their products and services to reach clients across the country, or even overseas. These numbers enable clients to call the service providers without worrying about the astronomical costs of long-distance calls. Locate Brilliant Broad Band Promotions for your Home

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Broad-band might loosely be explained as incredible speedy worldwide web and has all but over taken from slow dial-up wordlwide web access. annoying dial- up internet connections, which are the first web connections to supply apartments with net access via a modem, use all of the available telephone line and frequently run at only fifty six kilobits per second. Broad band technology, that uses ADSL ,also known as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, technology through usual copper phone lines, is capable to provide at least twice over that dial up modem speed which is tremendous and as if this wasn’t enough it will oftentimes not trigger any disturbance to the phone line.

Super quick broad-band has become more and more cheap and accessible over the past three and a half years or so & is nowadays tried by the majority of home internet subscribers in the Great British Isle. There are a enormous number of broadband corporations who recommend broad-band packages, each particular one offering numerous priced promotions with a diverse number of advantages. One of the main present focus points for Quick broadband is speed, with users these days becoming more and more interested in getting the greatest connection available as online games, music & videos turned out to be more & more popular and broadly possible on the www. The speed of a broadband connection depends on a number of different things, the most important being how near the House is 2 the nearest phone exchange box and the quality of the copper cable that lies between the box & the home. Save money with broadband deals

One of the ways Quick broadband dial up speed can be greatly enhanced 2 with the use of fibre optic cables, which do not suffer from dial up speed reduction over smaller distances. a miscellaneous number of other countries in the world have huge fibre optic networks and some, like Japan and South Korea, are providing Broad Band speeds of up to 100mbps all this is really fantastic. The UK is anxious to bring itself in line with all these countries & people should be content to know that British Telecom recently announced their plans to lay a big fibre optic network in & around the whole country at a cost of 1.5 billion pounds, al the way up to 10 million areas by 2012 and supplying top speeds of up to 100mbps in a lot of homes, with an average of 40-50mbps.

Whats the Future for Mobile VoIP?

Friday, October 10th, 2008

One of the biggest developments in the telecommunications industry in recent years has been the development of mobile VoIP technology. Although its early days for the mobile Voice over IP operators such as Truphone, it certainly seems they have the capacity to reshape the industry quite dramatically. Some of the recent longer established mobile operators’ actions seem proof of this with T-Mobile recently being forced to allow the use of Truphone over its network, having previously blocked calls to Truphone alloted numbers.

Whilst a few people argue that as VoIP prices tend towards zero, this is making it a very hard industry to make any sizable profit in; the wider availability of cut cost high speed broadband and has resulted in a huge surge in the availability of free Wi-Fi. Consequently this is making mobile VoIP operators an increasingly attractive offer for consumers. The trend in the availability of new ’smart phones’ with the ability to run mobile VoIP client software, at ever decreasing prices is also, it could be argued, creating the ‘perfect storm’.

We have recently seen T-Mobile announce their VoIP service called @home giving people the option of paying a single low monthly flat rate. However whilst the industry is finding customers uncomfortable about getting rid of their fixed phone line all together, mobile VoIP companies have no such obstacle to contend with. The seamless integration of mobile VoIP clients into the functionality of mobile phones, as well as the reduced cost of data-inclusive phone packages has resulted in a predictably rapid growth in the mobile VoIP sector.

Currently it has been documented that there are 4 million VoIP customers in the United Kingdom, and this looks set to increase steadily. How established mobile phone operators will harness this is still unclear but the decision to force T Mobile to allow calls to Truphone customers surely transmits a crystal clear message that rather than try and resist the mobile VoIP operators, the entranched industry monoliths must find a way of working with them.

One stumbling block which may have an effect on the amount of subscribers of mobile Voice over IP is security, with many highly publicized incidents highlighting the vulnerabilities in making calls using VoIP. Another issue to to confront is ‘VoIP phishing’ where people are duped into giving up their personal data voluntarily after falling for a thief’s lure. This is also symptomatic of other VoIP security problems where unscrupulous would be thieves can tamper with the caller ID making it appear as though they are ringing from reputable financial institutions. Once such issues have been dealt with and fears allayed it is likely that mobile VoIP will become will become much more integral to peoples lives as people take the opportunity to turn their mobiles into VoIP phones.

Mobile Broadband Speeds

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

How many people get the correct speed for what they pay? According to a new report, millions of customers are granted only half of the speed for which they are charged for, and at fairly high price. It is found in a survey that 12,000 users had their average speed to be around 4Mbps while they have been promised with 8Mbps. Many customers can achieve only half the speed with their promised speed. Ofcom, the watchdog for communications requested ISP’s to be honest with their speed. The report provided by uSwitch.com confirms that only one in 10 customers receive the advertised speed.

Broadband users in Japan can touch speeds of 100Mbps. In Britain, the copper wire telephone technology lowers the speed for the available speed. While many mobile broadband companies advertise speeds up to 16 Mbps, people living in remote areas are nowhere near that speed. There are about seven million customers who are promised with a speed of 6Mbps. According to a report, people choose the provider by taking speed as an important factor. Many broadband users criticize the Britain’s copper wire telephone technology; this affects the broadband speed a lot. The old lines which are being used by half of the customers can get only 6Mbps. Ofcom suggested the ISP’s to change to high-speed optic fibre cables.
